Will this course enable me to diagnose a tongue-tie restriction?
This course, as a stand alone qualification, will not provide you with the expertise and skills required to become a tongue-tie release provider.
No, this course will not teach you how to formerly diagnose a tongue-tie restriction but you may be able to recognise symptomatic behaviours that you could inform families of your suspicions for referral to an expert provider who may proceed to diagnose.
Can I use this course to train to become a tongue-tie release provider?
This is at the discretion of the practical trainer. I can not guarantee that this course would meet their criteria. The best person to direct this question to would be your chosen practical trainer.
What are the requirements to become a tongue-tie release provider in the UK?
Prior to undertaking a practical training course, it is strongly recommended that you have a sound knowledge of infant feeding behaviour and abilities.
Anyone wanting to train as a release provider should reflect on their suitability as the feeding complications associated with a tongue-tie restriction are complex and multi-factoral.
-
Candidates. must be post-graduate healthcare professional such as a nurse, midwife, doctor or dentist. Whilst other healthcare professionals may choose to train in assessment, practical training would not fall into the scope of their professional body and so training is unsuitable for them. Therefore, individuals must be regulated by NMC, GDC, or GMC.

It consists of 6 modules, each of the video presentations for you to watch will take approximately an hour each. The beauty of any recording is that you can stop, start, and revisit and grey areas for clarification. Each module has a quiz associated with it too. Self-directed/guided study is recommended for enhanced development.
At the end of the program a short reflective account of a patient journey is to be submitted as the final assessment piece.
The final step for course completion which consists of the case study and feedback review can not be accessed until week 3 of your course access.
The estimated total course duration is approximated to be 10 hours + time spent in practice for your reflective case review.
Can I print out the course slides to make personal notes?
Each module is supported with the slide presentations. This is not downloadable for both sustainability and copyright protection purposes, but with unlimited access and 24/7 availability there is little need for it to be printed.

You may also have the option within your browser settings to 'zoom' in as a percentage, and you can also expand the recordings by clicking into the corner to expand those too.
Viewing is recommended on a desktop or laptop view, it is viewable on a tablet or mobile device but the size of the screen will reduce the sizing of images.
What is the 'Designated support group'?
The online support group serves as a community space for participants who share a common interest in the topics covered by this course. It features a group discussion board, similar to a social media news feed, where members can post content, ask questions, and engage in conversations through comment threads.
Participants are welcome to share helpful resources to support each other’s learning.
The group is private and access is restricted to course participants only.
Respectful and safe sharing is encouraged at all times.
What assessments are made and what is the assessment criteria?
Each module is followed by a short quiz.
Answers to the quizzes are designed to test your knowledge and check your interpretation of the module you have just undertaken. Answers to the quiz questions are found within the module itself, and self-directed reading is encouraged. Some questions are open-ended to encourage reflective practice. You are able to review and renew your answers, but previous submissions are not saved and so you are encouraged to save your responses to your own devices should you wish to track them.
Your quiz answers are only accessible by Diana (D-Restricted Ltd) and revisions may be suggested if further elaboration is necessary.
In addition to the 6 quizzes, a reflective case study is requested to follow a patient journey from point of contact with your service, through to an assessment, possible surgical release/conservative management alongside demonstration of how you would support the family too based on what you have learnt in the modules. This may be a feeding journey of a family you are currently supporting, or you may choose to attend my clinic (no extra charge) to see the assessment and frenulotomy process in-person. Additionally, you may include an attendance to other services in your case study, such as bodytherapists, as networking in your local area with other professionals is encouraged. Whichever way you choose, you patient journey should follow the reflective module found within the course program step and be submitted online too.
Once all 6 modules have been completed alongside successful completion of the reflective case study and feedback, I will send a certificate for full course accreditation. Please ensure that I have your full address and name (as you wish it to appear onto your certificate) so that I can forward this to you using Royal Mail.
If you are asked to revisit any element of the assessments then I will notify you of these within 4 weeks and revisions are expected to be re-submitted within 3 months. Should you need any longer please just reach out.
To progress through the course successfully, all steps need to be registered as completed. To do this the small tick next to each step will turn green. The system will not register your completion if the step is not completed. This is demonstrated by an image on the final question to each quiz too.
